BIBLIOGRAPHY OF A SUMMER DAY
"Immobile. This is how Carlo Giuliani appears in the photo which was taken a few minutes before he entered piazza Alimonda where the unforeseeable awaited him. While everything around him is in movement, teargas, water cannon, bullet shots, flying stones, Carlo Giuliani is immobile in the front line of the march. Carlo Giuliani awaits death which will arrive shortly afterwards on a Land Rover…"
These words were written by Luciano Ferrara (Un altro mondo č possibile, published by Intra Moenia, p. 77), who took the previous photo, giving us one of the last pictures of Carlo alive, even though, like many others, he makes a mistake: Carlo's tracksuit trousers are blue, his sweater is grey with two white stripes along the sleeves, his balaclava is blue, as testified by the police report held by the local police headquarters.
No, Carlo was not awaiting death: those who knew him well know perfectly well that in that precise moment he was calmly thinking. Carlo wants to understand, he wants to understand exactly what is going on.
